If you plan on using your vehicle for business, medical appointments, or charitable or moving purposes in 2019, make sure you take note of the 2019 standard mileage rates.
The standard mileage rate for business use is 58 cents per mile. It was 54.5 cents in 2018. This is a 3.5 cents increase.
Medical and moving rates also increased to 20 cents per mile – up from 18 cents per mile in 2018.
If you drive as part of your service to a charitable organization, the mileage rate is still 14 cents per mile.
Remember! The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act eliminated the deduction for unreimbursed job expenses.
However, your employer can directly reimburse you for the cost of tools, uniforms, travel, or continuing education. Your employer is still able to deduct those expenses on their business returns. Make sure you ask your employer about reimbursement.
